The revitalization of the Downtown Square will transform the area into a destination for the community's many interests and needs. Key features include a large recreational and event lawn, an observatory treehouse, an imaginative play area, a pavilion for smaller, impromptu performances, an urban water fountain, and a distinctive gateway feature.
Beyond the Square, up to 14 blocks of streetscapes will be improved in the broader Downtown area.

During Phase 1 of construction, which began in December 2021, the Downtown Square went offline. In addition, utility work along Main Street and Fifth Street started in late December.
Throughout the wider Downtown Core, streetscape enhancements will begin along W. State Street, W. Avenue A, and Seventh Street (between State and Austin Streets) in late January or early February.
