NOAA Weather Radio:



NOAA broadcasts National Weather Service warnings, watches, forecasts, and other hazard information 24 hours a day.  Known as the “voice of the National Weather Service”, NOAA Weather Radio is provided as a public service by the Department of Commerce’s National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.  The National Weather Service in Ft. Worth operates on 162.400 Mhz in this service area.

 

 

Emergency Alerting System (EAS):



In this area EAS is activated by the National Weather Service for weather related or other types of emergency messages and rebroadcast by local radio and television stations. You need to be aware that the rebroadcast of EAS warnings is voluntary. If your favorite station does not provide EAS warnings you need to contact station management and urge them to do so.

Code Red:



In the case of an emergency or urgent notification, the City of Garland now has the capability to notify residents via the telephone through a new tool called CodeRed.  The system is geographical-based and allows the City to alert citizens based on their location and telephone numbers.  A pre-recorded message tell a live person or an answering machine about the specific situation and if any action is necessary.
 
 
This is the latest warning system available to the public in many areas is known as "reverse 9-1-1".  These are automated telephone systems are available in many areas.  Search your local emergency management web page to see if they have these capabilities you jursidiction.  It is also available at many Universities throughout the United States, such as "Eagle Alert" at the University of North Texas.

 

 

Outdoor Warning Systems:

 
These sirens are designed to alert citizens, who are outdoors, to an eminent severe weather threat in the community. Outdoor warning sirens are not designed to be heard indoors. When sounded, citizens should seek shelter immediately in a stable structure such as a house. Once secure, listen to a radio and/or television for emergency warning details and further instructions.
