For more information, call the Stormwater Hotline at

This holiday, please don't feed the storm drain!  Don't pour cooking oil, pan drippings, bacon grease, salad dressings or sauces down the sink, toilet or down storm drains.

Be smarter than the turkey you're frying!  Polluting the storm drain system with cooking oil can harm our creeks and lakes - our drinking water supply!  Remember, only rain goes down the storm drain!

This Fall, let your leaves work for you.  Instead of raking, bagging yard waste, naturally fertilize your lawn by leaving it where it falls.  Keep yard waste from clogging storm drains.  If you see a blocked drain, please report it to the Stormwater Hotline at 972.205.2180.
The end of summer could mean the beginning of water pollution.  All pools, spas and hot tubs over 750 gallons must be drained into the sanitary sewer.  Do not send chemicals into the storm drain or alley - you dump it, you drink it!
Did you know that maintaining the drainage channels adjacent to your property by litter removal, mowing and weeding is a homeowner's responsibility?

With oil prices continuing to rise, there's something you can do to save money and help the environment at the same time.  After changing your vehicle's oil, collect it for recycling at Garland's Recycling Center located at 1426 Commerce Street.  Avoid spills and leaks.  If spills occur, use an absorbent material to contain the oil.
Somethin' fishy going on.  Eating one polluted fish has the same effect on the human body as drinking 1000 gallons of polluted water!  Keeping our water clean will help keep fish fit to eat.
Calling all volunteers!  We need YOUR GROUP's help to mark our City storm drains.  For information, call the Stormwater Hotline at 972.205.2180.
Parks are for play, not for poop!  Please clean up after your pets.  Mutt Mitt pick up bags are provided in many City of Garland parks.
Be Bloomin' Creative; Plant Native.  March is Texas SmartScape Month.  Save water, time and money.  For your free SmartScape CD, call the SmartScape Hotline at 972.205.2466.  Also available at www.txsmartscape.com.

Don't send your hazardous waste to the landfill!  Take them to the Dallas County Home Chemical Collection Center (11234 Plano Road, Dallas 75243).  For more information, call 214-553-1765 or the Stormwater Hotline at 972-205-2180.

Washing your car at home can introduce soap, oil and engine grime into our creeks and lakes.  Using a commercial car wash allows chemicals to be filtered and sent to a wastewater treatment facility for cleaning.  Soap is for dishes, not fishes!
