In the year 2030, Garland will be home to more than 240,000 residents and support businesses that employ about 117,000, all of whom are seeking a community that provides a vibrant place to live, work, play, and invest. Join us as we develop a plan for the future incorporating the dreams and aspirations of those invested in Garland’s future.
 
What kinds of development will allow our city to maximize its assets during the next twenty years? What about educational, cultural, and entertainment venues, or transportation, parks, and natural resources? What challenges must we overcome? What opportunities can we seize?
 
Envision Garland, the City’s effort to develop a new comprehensive plan, aims to answer these questions. Residents, business owners, property owners, and other interests are invited to share their vision, their hopes, and their concerns about Garland’s future. 

  
What's been done so far?
  
Garland’s residents have shared their values and vision for the city’s future through workshops, surveys, and other events. A summary of these events can be reviewed through three documents: the Citywide Opinion Survey, the Community Visioning Workshop Report, and the Growing the Vision Workshop Series Report.

From this community dialogue, a draft vision for Garland’s future has emerged: 
 
"In 2030, Garland is a community that blends old and new into a distinctive destination for people and businesses.  We successfully adapt to changing needs and benefit from new opportunities, strengthening our identity as a sustainable community with a hometown feel.  We are a community known for our appealing neighborhoods, globally-connected business hub, and beautiful parks, active lake-front, and natural areas." 
 
This draft statement is meant to capture the essence of the community's vision for Garland in 2030 and articulate the themes and key concepts in the plan. It will continue to evolve and be used to shape the development of the comprehensive plan.

Envision Garland will be the plan on how to reach our community’s vision and hold true to the values and concepts that residents feel are most important.  Over the coming months, this vision will be translated into a roadmap on how to achieve our desired future.
 

What's next?
 
Throughout this process, we will continue to need your input. As Envision Garland charts the path, we need to know that we are still on course. Over the year, the plan’s content – the goals for the future and strategies to achieve those goals – will be shared.  There will be public workshops and other opportunities for you to continue to share with us your thoughts, hopes, and vision for Garland’s future. We urge you to stay informed and involved with Envision Garland.
