Garland, Texas – May 1, 2009 -- Is your pet registered with the City of Garland? Are you considering adding a pet to your family? The City of Garland Animal Services Department is sponsoring “A Pet’s Ticket Home” Month in May to increase pet adoptions, as well as pet registrations as required by City Ordinance.
“Adoption is a ticket to a new and loving home for pets here at the Tuggle Animal Shelter,” says Diana Oats, Animal Services Manager. “Registering your pet with the City is also an important ticket home. If your pet is lost, we can use its registration tag to contact you and help you reunite with your pet.”
During the month of May, any Garland resident who visits the Tuggle Animal Shelter at 600 Tower Street to register or renew registration for their pet will receive a gift bag (while supplies last) which will include product samples and discount coupons for pet products and services. Registration is $5 for neutered pets and $15 for unsterilized pets.
The Animal Services Department has also begun a new “adoption sponsorship” program. Individuals may donate money toward the adoption fee of a pet. “Sponsored” pets can be adopted free of charge. The adoption fee for a pet that have not been spayed or neutered is $80. The fee is $35 for a pet that is spayed or neutered. Anyone who adopts a pet from the shelter during May will also receive a gift bag.
“Sometimes mixed breed or larger dogs or even cats don’t get adopted as quickly. We started this program a few weeks ago. Our generous donors have helped several animals that were of a less popular variety find homes,” says Diana. “Our goal for the special emphasis in May and for the sponsored adoptions is to increase our rate of adoption for homeless pets all year round.”
